IMPORTANT: You need to set up an iMessage account before you can use this. It will automatically use your Apple ID but you can also set up other accounts to send messages from within the Send & Receive setting.

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Scroll down and tap “Messages”
  3. Next to iMessage you have an On/Off bar. Slide this to turn it on or off

Within the iMessage settings you can do a few more things like sending a read receipt. This lets others know when you have read the message they sent. You also have the send as sms feature which will automatically send your message as a text if iMessage fails.  The rest of the settings are pretty simple, you can turn on MMS (Picture Messages), show a subject bar before your message and have a character count which counts the letters in your message.
